Blog Assignment #2

Before I came to Iowa State I planned on being involved in a club, but I had no idea that there would be so many different opportunities for me to become apart of. When I attended club fest I noticed many different clubs that had gotten my attention and others that I couldn't beleive there was even a club for. The one club that I thought I would like though was the Pheasants Forever Club.
Throughout my life I have always enjoyed being outdoors and hunting and other such things so I thought I would give the club a try. My choice to be in this club wasn't for academics, but for me personally. Each year the club host a pheasants forever banquet where they cook food and raffle off various items such as guns and whatnot. I was hoping to become involved in this and be able to help. Also, another activity that they do is a ditch clean-up and then have a barbaque afterwards.
I hope to gain an experience with just participating in the group and not just stand by and let everyone do everything else. I also think I being in this club will help me understand the different issues in the hunting environment rather than just hunting itself.
There are also many leadership opportunities in the ISU Pheasants Forever Chapter just like any other club out there. This year most of the leaders now such as the president, vice president, and the treasurer are all seniors and are graduationg this year so their postitions will need to be filled. Even if you aren't an officer, you can still help out with all the other activities going on in the club.
Being involved in this club could potentially help me get a job. Especially if I become an officer, employers like to see that a person has leadership potential and that could help me secure a job after college.
There are many various clubs here at ISU and I feel fortunate that I have a chance to be involved in any one that I choose. Clubs are a good way to get out there and meet people and also a good way to become involved.
